Longreach is a small town situated 1200 km North West of Brisbane, almost in the middle of Queensland. Known for its rugged outback terrain and long distance to, well..most things, it was also the birth place of Australia’s iconic airline Qantas, which also happens to be the best way to get there.
RMA Group in its recent work with Cardno and Mobil multi-site demolition and remediation, has been working across the whole of NSW and QLD, from Tocumwal at the border of VIC to Longreach in QLD.
The Longreach project involved the demolition and remediation of old fuel depot tanks, removal of 4 above ground storage tanks (as pictured below), removal of asbestos contaminated materials, demolition of buildings and hardstand areas.
Along with the sensitive contamination and asbestos issues on the project, the remoteness of Longreach proved to be a significant challenge, with the closest available waste disposal facility over 600kms away. To be able to complete the project efficiently and on time, significant logistical planning was required and also a very long truck……only in Longreach.

From here the teams will progress to Cooma, Bomaderry, Unanderra, Lithgow, Gilgandra, Grafton and finally Port Macquarie.
